The Tanana Valley Fair
grounds are located at College Road and Aurora Drive. Parking is free, but get there early
for a spot (most of the buildings open at noon). Alaska's oldest fair features
giant cabbages, competitive exhibits, a rodeo, motorcross, demonstrations, arts &
crafts, carnival rides, contests, fireworks (first Friday and last Saturday at 11 p.m.)
and other entertainment. 124,669 people attended the the Tanana Valley Fair in 1999, up
from 114,237 in 1998. 2000's and 2001's rainy fairs were a bit down, but
2002 had great weather, and 2003 was not bad either.!
When the Exhibitor Guide (a how-to guide for exhibiting) is ready, order
it with the link to the
Tanana
Valley Fair Web Site. Season tickets usually go on sale in July. In
2001 there was quite a bit of controversy as they dropped the Family
Season Pass, a particular hardship for children who entered animals they
had to feed and clean twice daily. Their web site gets better every year.
We are still waiting for the Fair 2008 ticket prices.
