usually are open by the end of May, earlier if there is an early breakup (like this year).

This 9-hole course is open
twenty-four hours a day June 1 through July 20. Water hazards (two
natural lakes) come into play on three holes. The greens are large,
undulating, and well bunkered. All the narrow fairways are lined with
birch, Alder, and fir trees, and bordered by a thick cut of moderately
tall rough. This course celebrated its 50th anniversary on June 21,
1996, the longest day in Alaska, the land of the midnight sun. "Golf
Digest" rated this course as the 8th "Best Public Course" in the state
for 1996. The course was redesigned by Robert Muir Graves in 1989.
Fees the last we heard (call to confirm, as they may have risen) were $19 for nine
holes and $29 for 18 holes. For those who choose to play between
midnight and 6 a.m., it's $10 for nine holes and $15 for 18. Call

Golf Pioneer Park has two 18-hole miniature golf courses right in the middle of
the park, near the playground. The course is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
every day during the season.

The North Star Golf Club is located on the Old Steese Highway, and is
Fairbanks newest course, including 9 or 18 holes of golf, golf cart,
clubs, towel, logo ball, and certificate. There is a fully stocked
pro/gift shop with customized Alaska golf items. They boast a
"comfortable café with viewing deck." They claim the title of the
farthest north golf course, accepting tee time reservations up to 30
